Camp Tautuku

Camp Tautuku 2014

The time had come to face my fear of heights as the bus slowed down outside a long steep cliff with rocks falling from the top.
A man named Dave was standing opposite the cliff wearing a bright yellow helmet and a dark blue harness. Being a camp leader I was afraid that I would be the first to have to abseil down the cliff. So I kept to the back of the line!
My hands shaking I took the helmet and the harness and tied myself in tightly. I took the rope that Dave had named the noddle. I struggled to turn around and put my back towards the ground, but surprisingly I managed without a fuss.
I smiled for the camera as I clambered down the cliff. I felt so famous getting photos in the middle of the cliff. I finished my way down and I was told that it only took me 2 minutes to go down (the fastest time).
I enjoyed abseiling that much and I wanted another turn.
